A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ... on the way to a snazzy outdoor fundraiser at the new David and Susan Sherman manse in Ladue. As the tables were set - the linens, silver and china sparkling, the buffet table laid just so, the dance floor in place - the automatic sprinkler system came on, and Susan had no idea how to turn it off. Apparently there are a couple of kinks that still have to be worked out. A deliveryman figured out how to stop the gushing; the Shermans give kudos to Premiere rental for jumping in and saving the party, which was a benefit for Food Outreach. High rollers for the event on Friday were spotted in the wine cellar with David Sherman. They included: Alvin and June Wolff, Angie and Jim Glik, Blair Sage and Sanford Rich. Others on the scene: Marylen Mann and Frank Jacobs, Stacy King, David and Julie Drier, Hazel and Arnold Donald, Chris Schmiz, Robert Lococo, Sigrid Brooks, Kim and Bill Miller, Susan and Warren Gelman, Jeana and Buddy Reisinger, Allison and Doug Collinger and Amy and Amrit Gill. Kim Massie donated her vocal talents, and Tony Simmons played the keyboards. The event was followed by Sunday's 18th annual "A Tasteful Affair" auction and food event. Director Greg Lukeman was thrilled that the organization raised nearly $240,000 over the weekend.
Now the part not in the article...was the volunteers and staff that were human shields by throwing themselves over the sprinkler head in the hope of saving the linens from anymore damage...now, of course, none of them needed showers before the event since they had already taken their communal one that afternoon during setup! Kudos! to all of them for going beyond the call of duty and truly making this a great success! Now, my only regret is that I was not able to be a part of the wonderful experience due to the fact that I was at a mandatory meeting at the Health Department, but I was kept abreast of the situation by phone...I have to say, the staff and volunteers had a great sense of humor through the whole ordeal...Kudos to all!!!
